Ryan Khong Sitting on a couch working at Word of Mouth Agency in Perth

This past week has been a bustle of anticipation here at the Word of Mouth HQ. Earlier this month, Campaign Brief along with The Oasis Project announced 2020’s Supernova of the year finalists, and we were so proud to find out that our very own Ryan Khong was included!

Campaign Brief is a creative advertising magazine which was started in 1987. Since then, they have ventured online and have obtained a large following in both Australia and New Zealand. For an advertising enthused creative, the Campaign Brief is a religious daily read and continues to highlight and inform those around the world on the creative happenings of down-under. Each year, Campaign Brief pairs up with The Oasis Project to help raise funds for the Salvation Army’s Crossroads West programme. Like Campaign Brief, The Oasis Project is dedicated to celebrating and recognising Western Australia’s advertising, media and communications industries. Each year, both parties collaborate to host The Oasis Ball. A highlight in West Australia’s advertising industry, The Oasis Ball is used to hand out awards, hold raffles and silent auctions, and create awareness and funds towards the Salvation Army.

This year, our one and only Ryan Khong was announced as a finalist for 2020 Supernova of the Year award by Campaign Brief. This award is sponsored by the radio station Nova 93.7 and acknowledges up-and-coming young people who are making an impact early in their careers as they shape to be future industry leaders. Officially one of the first awards to ever be entered on behalf of Word of Mouth, we were thrilled to have one of our own recognised as an individual who is making a significantly positive mark within the industry. As this year was The Oasis Project and Campaign Brief’s 25th anniversary, we were prepared to hear the winner’s announcement at the prestigious Oasis Ball held at Crown Towers. Unfortunately for us and many other West Australian creatives, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the ball was cancelled.

But we are creatives and nothing comes between us and a good time. Instead of waiting for 2021’s Oasis Ball, agencies around Perth dusted off suits, slipped into ball gowns, and headed to their respective lounge rooms and private offices to watch The Oasis Project’s livestream! If you know Ryan, you would know that he is a talented creative, a cheerful comrade, and never one to say no to an opportunity which includes a wearing a bowtie. On Monday, the 6th of April, 2020 at 12pm, the Word of Mouth team gathered around to listen to the Facebook livestream announcement of the 2020 Campaign Brief WA Awards winners.

Already ecstatic to be recognised as a finalist, Ryan and the team were in elated to hear that the winner of Supernova of the Year, 2020, was, “Ryan Khong from Word of Mouth Agency”. As an agency, we are so proud to have one of our own recognised and then win such a prestigious award. A diligent, persevering go-getter, there is no one who deserves this award more than Ryan. We want to thank Campaign Brief, The Oasis Project and Nova 93.7 for the recognition and we look forward to continuing in our efforts on impacting our local community, clients and industry as a whole. To Ryan, congratulations! We appreciate you and your ambitious work ethic and we are overjoyed to know that this sentiment is recognised not only by us, but by the industry as a whole.

Congratulations Ryan!
